Virtual Dedicated Servers and Virtual Private Server Solutions (VDS/VPS)
Whilst certain providers distinguish between the two with discussions regarding contended resources, Coreix does not oversubscribe resources on these platforms. VPS resources are dedicated to you and not contended.
The distinction we make with these products is in relation to the shared nature of the infrastructure.
VPS - Virtual Private Server
Coreix hosts VPS's on our hypervisor platforms which are managed by Coreix. Regardless of management, the VPS user gets the maximum administrative privileges, including root access, the highest level that allows you to install the operating system and other software on the computer.
These hypervisors are shared with other customers however the resources we allocate to you are non-contended. Solutions are portable and clients can benefit from virtualisation technologies such as snapshots for backup.
VDS - Virtual Dedicated Server
With a VDS scenario, these are bare-metal servers dedicated to the customer whereby we manage the hypervisors and create a single-tenant virtual machine that consumes the entire set of resources of the machine. In this scenario, the customer benefits from virtualisation concepts and Coreix management but has all the resources of that particular server dedicated to them.
VDS is truly a virtual dedicated server - A single-tenant, single virtual machine on a hypervisor managed by Coreix - As such this machine appears like a dedicated server to the client.
The benefits are that the client can benefit from snapshots, simple migrations (for upgrades) and should there be any hardware issues, services can be moved more rapidly than a bare-metal solution.
A VPS can be utilised for hosting websites and software applications. It is a step up from shared hosting since the data is isolated onto a virtual machine that is dedicated to the client. A VPS is a perfect compromise between web hosting plans and dedicated servers since it combines reliability with high performance.
VPS versus Public Cloud
There are many common characteristics of cloud and VPS in that both VPS and public cloud are based on physical servers and virtualisation systems.
Virtual Private Servers have been utilised as a way for businesses to significantly reduce IT costs and increase operational efficiency for their businesses. With VPS you have the ability to isolate applications and programs within one virtual server that’s set aside solely for you. A VPS provides high levels of privacy, security and control. Nevertheless, while VPS delivers cost savings on hardware and offers the flexibility to run multiple operating systems or applications on individual servers simultaneously, it does not scale particularly well.
Realistically though, in contrast, public cloud is the equivalent of buying into a larger ecosystem that is significantly more scalable. A cloud environment allows you to more easily add more resources to your servers, such as RAM, processors or even snapshots of your machine to back up your data.
A Virtual Private Server is a shared server that virtually mimics dedicated server environments. Unlike other providers Coreix makes the resources dedicated to you, not contended. We differentiate VPS & VDS around the shared infrastructure.
Coreix are able to provide a wide range of virtual solutions that are ideal for any business - local, national or global. For more information, you can visit the Coreix VDS section or alternatives you can call, email or request a live chat.Contact Coreix
